Honoring Legacy at the Marion Community Foundation

Last night was spent in my hometown of Marion, Ohio where I had the privilege of escorting my mother, Mary Ellen Withrow, 40th Treasurer of the United States and former Treasurer of Ohio, to the Marion Community Foundation’s Holiday Open House.

The Marion Community Foundation holds a special place for my family as we have the privilege to select 2 scholarship recipients in honor each of my parents: The Norman Withrow Scholarship and The Mary Ellen Withrow Scholarship.

Each spring we have the opportunity to read about the applicants and what they are accomplishing and each year, it is most inspiring.

An added bonus for me is to see and chat with people who grew up with me. One of those special people is Julie Prettyman, Marion Community Foundation Director, a person who by the sheer number of years we have known each other, falls into the lifelong friend category. I have a great memory of Julie from our high school speech class with Mr. Max Griffith – she wrote an amazing speech about “YOUTH” that I can still recall to this day! She was impressive then and she continues to be impressive now.
